The Rhythm of Grace
The other day, our furnace motor went out.
No heat. No cool. No air movement at all.
You see, without the motor to run the fan, although cold air was being generated by the central air unit, it couldn’t get to us. It just sat there…stuck.
So we got a new motor installed. And it worked…except.
Except that now it wouldn’t turn off! It just constantly ran, whether we wanted or needed it to or not. Whether it was helpful or not, it just kept running.
And these two scenarios got me thinking about our lives.
Sometimes we go through things and then get stuck. We shut down and decide to stop.
No more serving. No more loving. No more forgiving. And although the Holy Spirit’s still inside us, generating good things, we keep it locked up.
I’ll just stay quiet, we think. No more stepping out for me!
Or.
Or, we go to the other extreme. And instead of shutting down totally, we try to prove. We decide to run nonstop. Not because our Father has called us or Holy Spirit is prompting us, but simply because, out of our hurt, we think that if we do more, we’ll be approved of more.
But neither one is healthy. And neither one is true!
God has not called you to stay quiet, living life shut down and alone. However, He has also not called you to go nonstop, keeping yourself busy, trying to prove you are good enough, smart enough, holy enough or loving enough.
With God, you are already enough!
God has called you, instead, to move and live and do and be with Him! And in Him! In His rhythm of grace. In His rhythm of peace. In His rhythm of joy and delight!
Oh friend, whichever side of the picture you tend to find yourself, I want to encourage you to take a moment and get back into rhythm with Holy Spirit! Move when He moves. Do what He is doing.
Jesus said, I only do what I see My Father doing. And you can do the same!
Don’t fall for the trap of staying silent or staying busy, when you can stay in the joy-filled, peace-filled rhythm of grace!
Jesus said: Be love! To your family, to your neighbors, to the world!
It’s what He did. And it’s what we can do! Joyfully, excitedly, tenaciously! Not because we have to, but because we delight to!
So today, be love! Move with the rhythms of grace. You and everyone around you will be so glad you did!
Jesus
gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing
by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because
whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the
Son and shows Him all He does. Yes, and He will show Him even greater
works than these, so that you will be amazed. John 5:19-20 NIV
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 NIV
To
love [God] with all your heart, with all your understanding and with
all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more
important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. Mark 12:32 NIV
